Welcome in
The Woodland Cottage is our family's mountain home in Sapphire, North Carolina. You'll know it by the shingled turret over the front door.
Inside, the great room opens up under a vaulted wood ceiling, with a wood-burning fireplace at one end and a wall of windows onto the trees. A king room and a queen room sit off the main floor, and a loft under the eaves holds two more beds and a shelf of books.
Outside, a wide deck wraps the front of the house, and a stone firepit waits down among the hardwoods. Cashiers is a short drive away, and Highlands is not much farther.

Inside
Sleeping arrangements: a king bed, a queen bed, two twin beds in the loft, and a futon in the common area, for up to eight guests.

The heart of the house. A vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling, a wood-burning fireplace with a stone hearth, deep sofas, and big windows that look straight into the trees. There's a TV with Roku and YouTube TV for movie nights.

A full kitchen with a breakfast bar, a Keurig, a Smithey cast iron Dutch oven, and the pots, pans, and dishes you need to cook a real meal. The dining table seats eight, and the grill is just outside on the deck.

A brass king bed, soft green walls, and a window onto the woods. Quiet in the morning, with plenty of room to unpack for the week.

An iron queen bed with a cedar chest at its foot, a reading chair by the window, and light that comes in soft through the curtains.

Up the stairs and under the eaves: two twin beds, a rocking chair, and a wall of books, all beneath a pine ceiling. Kids tend to claim it on the first night.

Two full bathrooms, each with a walk-in shower. Fresh towels and the basics are set out before you arrive.

An old secretary desk and a full bookshelf in a corner of the great room. Good for a letter, a crossword, or the one morning you need to check email. Wi-Fi reaches every room.
Outside
The cottage sits on a wooded lot in a quiet Sapphire neighborhood, with hardwoods on every side.

A wide deck wraps the front of the house. There's a table with an umbrella for meals outside, a gas grill by the kitchen door, and rocking chairs around a tabletop firepit for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine at night.

Down a set of stone steps, a fire ring is circled by Adirondack chairs, with string lights hung through the trees. It's the spot for s'mores and long conversations after dark.
